It’s worth emphasizing this in the time of AI and deepfakes we now live in… The viral photo allegedly showing Cole Allen wearing an IDF sweatshirt originated from social media posts claiming it came from his now-deleted Instagram. It was amplified heavily in conspiracy threads and Meta reportedly removed the original post, but no law enforcement agency or major news outlet has authenticated it, to be clear. The Pakistan rugby shirt version also circulating (probably a counter-narrative) uses the exact same base photo, has the same lack of verification, just a different agenda. All this is noise until authorities give us reason to believe otherwise. We’re sharing what we see, in the moment, but will always make the effort to be completely transparent when we believe something to be fake. That is very likely the case here with this.
